$7,500 matching challenge offered for Community Works campaign

A small group of Vassar employees has offered a generous giving challenge to help the college’s annual Community Works fundraising campaign reach its $70,000 goal. The group will contribute a combined $7,500 to the campaign if $7,500 in other donations and pledges is received from Thursday, December 7, through Friday, December 16.

Community Works is Vassar’s annual giving campaign for local non-profit organizations. Funded by donations from employees, trustees, and students, Community Works has provided over $1 million in grants to over 50 different groups since its inception in 2001. Recipients are selected each year by an employee committee based upon nominations from members of the college community. And 100% of the funds contributed go directly to the grant recipients, because the college pays for all of the campaign’s administrative costs.

Contributions and pledges to Community Works can be made at the campaign website,  where there is also information about the new group of ten local non-profits selected to receive grants in the coming year. One-time contributions can be made online with a credit or debit card, and pledges to give through payroll deduction can be set up there as well. Or a contribution form can be printed out from the site to accompany a gift made by check or cash, which would be submitted to Community Works at campus box 9. Email Community Works for further information at communityworks@vassar.edu
